We'll also make sure you know how to care for your investment, so you can keep your treatments looking and functioning like new.

Regular cleaning and maintenance keep Parkland® Wood Blinds looking like new.

How to Clean Window Blinds and Shutters

To clean interior shutters and window blinds, use a feather duster or a vacuum brush attachment. Tilt the slats or louvers almost all the way closed, then run the duster across them. If you have to spot-clean them, dab water onto the area to remove debris, but then dry them immediately.

How to Clean Window Shades

While the process depends slightly on the fabric of your shades, it starts by lowering them all the way down, then dusting them with a feather duster or a vacuum brush. Avoid dust mitts because they can damage some fabrics.

From there, use a sponge or soft cloth to spot-clean with lukewarm water by dabbing, not rubbing. If needed, you can use a mild detergent. You can also have your shades professionally cleaned.

Other Window Treatment Care Tips

For shutter, blind, and shade maintenance, you also need some additional care beyond basic cleaning. You can:

  • Rub lemon oil into your wood blinds or wood shutters to prevent drying.
  • Repel dust by rubbing dryer sheets on your faux wood blinds or composite shutters.
  • Use a mild cleanser with lukewarm water if necessary to keep vinyl shutters and metal blinds clean.
  • Dab at spots on shades as soon as possible to prevent them from staining the fabric.
  • Use canned air or a blow dryer on the cool setting to remove dust from cellular shades.
  • Tighten any loose brackets you discover before they become a problem.
  • Clean both window shades individually if you have a dual model: lower one shade, clean it thoroughly, then lower the other and clean it as well.
  • Use a handheld steamer if your shades are wrinkled, or call for our recommendations based on your fabric type.
